Eleftheroudakis Flagship Store

Eleftheroudakis Flagship Store

Eleutheroudakis, one of the oldest bookstores and publishing companies in Greece since 1898, decided to re-invent themselves in the contemporary aesthetics, with the opening of a new flagship store in the centre of Athens. Architects’ main goal was to create a modern, interactive and extrovert environment that will attract a younger user, as well as respecting the traditional customers of the bookstore. According to the brief for the lighting concept, a loose and more domestic atmosphere had to be created, following the overall concept of the store. Soft general lighting was given by continuous custom made linear fluorescent fittings that followed the peripheral bookcases enhancing visual comfort and spaciouness. At the series of the bookcases on the display window, linear led lighting was integrated into the structure in order to be invisible by the passer by from the exterior. At circulation areas lighting is more dramatic, created by pools of light emitted by custom made MR16s lighting fittings mounted on the concrete ceiling. Decorative pendant lights and integrated linear lighting in showcases function as visual cues for the viewer.
